Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-starrer ‘Stree‘ is all set to hit the screens on August 31. Months ago, the trailer of the horror-comedy movie was released and it was amazing. The trailer was a laugh riot but the main element of the film was fear that it had. Not many are aware that the story of ‘Stree’ is actually real. There is actually an urban legend that still gripped Karnataka with fear during the 90s. It was ‘Nale Ba’.
According to legend, in the 90s, before Bengaluru became vibrant and happening city, a witch used to roam the streets and hunt for prey. She would reportedly knock the door at night and call out a person in the voice of their kin and whoever opened the door, would die in next 24 hours. Panic spread across the city. People in Karnataka started writing ‘Nale ba’, meaning ‘come tomorrow’ in Kannada, to avoid her. It was believed that the witch would arrive, see the inscription, and leave. And the cycle was repeated many times.
Interesting to note, the legend of that the witch was so widely spread and believed that April 1 is celebrated as ‘Nale Ba Day’ in some parts of Bengaluru.
